So... tomorrow I'm heading out with my girlfriends on a road trip. yee haw y'all!
Today I took my bike in to GS H-D so she could be transformed into a minibagger. -well, kind of... My bike has a detachable windshield, highway pegs, a luggage rack, and a barrel bag. I absolutely hate my windshield. Not just because it looks crappy up close, but on the way home (over 50 mile ride) I couldn't feel the wind in my kisser, just wind coming in from the side. yuck! I know that's what it's supposed to do...and I know I will love it on the interstate. I can assure that it's only going on when I have longer rides. The highway pegs need a little adjusting. Maybe my friend that wrenches will fix them for me.
I'll post a pic tomorrow after she's loaded up.
Excited about the ride!!!!!

I know you're stoked.
MUST HAVES:
1. A little bitty but powerful flashlight (preferrably something that will fit in the pocket of your jacket)
2. A small tool pack (needle-nosed pliers, cresent wrench, zip ties, knife, flat head & phillips screwdriver, etc.)
3. A weapon (and the will to use it) Never, ever hit the road without a weapon. It'll be much better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Guns, knives, or ice-picks will suffice.
4. A damp washcloth in a baggie. (to try to wipe the shit-eatin' grin off of your face when you pull in for that first rest stop!!)
And yeah, windshields suck.
***CRITICAL*** Check your tire pressure while your tires are cold before you leave and take a quart of oil.
Listen to catpressedjeenz!
About the windshield. Get rid of it, leave it at home. I ride 1,000 mile plus weekends on trips and still no windshield.
Have lots of fun! Be Safe! and when you drink too much at night the ride the next day sucks at first but then the fresh air and excitement kicks in and you forget you ever had (still have) a hangover.
Here's my bike last month in front of my building about to head out for a few days. Notice the Keep It Simple approach to my packing. LOL

Harley oil is specifically engineered for air-cooled engines and you can't just get it anywhere. I would never mix HD oil with garden variety automotive oil...but that's just me.
Lots of love for your journey!
